IBM STUDY: Digital Era Transforming CMO’s Agenda, Revealing Gap In Readiness

*Most chief marketers admit they are not sufficiently plugged into real-time conversations about their brands*
*CMOs struggling to prove the return on marketing investments*

ARMONK, N.Y. – 11 Oct 2011: A new IBM study of more than 1,700 chief marketing officers from 64 countries and 19 industries reveals that the majority of the world’s top marketing executives recognize a critical and permanent shift occurring in the way they engage with their customers, but question whether their marketing organizations are prepared to manage the change.

At the same time, the research shows that the measures used to evaluate marketing are changing. Nearly two-thirds of CMOs think return on marketing investment will be the primary measure of the marketing function’s effectiveness by 2015. But even among the most successful enterprises, half of all CMOs feel insufficiently prepared to provide hard numbers. (more…)

comScore Reports June 2011 U.S. Mobile Subscriber Market Share

*2 out of 5 Smartphone Subscribers Now Use Android Platform*

RESTON, VA, August 4, 2011 – comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending June 2011. The study surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and found Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 25.3 percent market share. Google Android continued to gain ground in the smartphone market reaching 40.1 percent market share in June.

OEM Market Share

For the three month average period ending in June, 234 million Americans ages 13 and older used mobile devices. Device manufacturer Samsung ranked as the top OEM with 25.3 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers (up 0.8 percentage points), followed by LG with 21.3 percent share (up 0.4 percentage points) and Motorola with 14.5 percent share. Apple strengthened its position at #4 with 8.9 percent share of mobile subscribers (up 1.0 percentage points), while RIM rounded out the top five with 7.9 percent share. (more…)

Problems, Opportunities Face Online Religion News, MU Expert Says

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The recent economic decline has caused many newspapers across the country to make significant cutbacks in staffing and coverage. An MU journalism expert says one area of news that has suffered from these cutbacks is religion news. Debra Mason, professor of journalism studies at the Missouri School of Journalism and director of the Center on Religion and the Professions, says that religion news, which was once routine in many newspapers, has now been relegated to websites and blogs.
