Der sechste Band des Deutschen Familiennamenatlas befasst sich mit Familiennamen aus Rufnamen

Der sechste Band des Deutschen Familiennamenatlas (DFA) ist erschienen. 49 Kartenkomplexe dokumentieren Familiennamen, deren erste Namenträger nach dem Rufnamen ihres Vaters oder einer anderen Bezugsperson benannt wurden. „Der Band deckt erstmals systematisch und umfassend die räumlichen Beziehungen zwischen dem mittelalterlichen Rufnameninventar und dem Familiennamenbestand eines Landes auf”, erklärt Projektmitarbeiterin Dr. Kathrin Dräger, die Autorin des Bandes. Yale doctors confront an opiate crisis in the city and a bad night in the ED

On the night of June 23, it was all hands on deck in the emergency department at Yale New Haven Hospital. They were running out of resuscitation rooms and breathing tubes. Patients were put in overflow rooms, and doctors and nurses came from other departments to keep up with the flood of patients. The pace was unrelenting—beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting for six hours. New equation reveals how other people’s fortunes affect our happiness

A new equation, showing how our happiness depends not only on what happens to us but also how this compares to other people, has been developed by UCL researchers funded by Wellcome.

Weltweite Lebenserwartung auf 71,4 Jahre gestiegen

Die weltweite Lebenserwartung ist seit dem Jahr 2000 um fünf Jahre auf 71,4 Jahre gestiegen (Frauen: 73,8 Jahre, Männer: 69,1 Jahre). Wenngleich Afrika bei der Lebenserwartung aufgeholt hat, bleiben erhebliche regionale Unterschiede bestehen.

Während eine europäische Frau im Durchschnitt 81 Jahre alt wird (Mann: 75), stirbt eine afrikanische Frau durchschnittlich mit nur 63 Jahren (Mann: 59 Jahre). Das geht aus den World Health Statistics 2016 der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) hervor. (more…)
