Neue Netzdebatten braucht das Land

In unserer Presseschau blicken wir auf eine debattenreiche Woche zurück. Der Blogger Sascha Lobo fühlt sich auf einmal gekränkt und tritt eine breite Debatte los. Stehen Internet und Politik vielleicht in einem engeren Zusammenhang, als wir alle dachten? Ist nur das Internet kaputt oder ist sogar unsere Demokratie in Gefahr? Warum spielt die CSU einen „digitalen Doppelpass“ in den eigenen Reihen, so als spielte sie das Endspiel gegen die Piraten? Hat das Internet also nun positive Effekte, bei der Verwaltung, der Regierung oder der Diskussion politischer Themen oder ist es der negative Alleszermalmer unserer Gesellschaft? ANN ARBOR — What started as a politically liberal Facebook meme in support of health care reform morphed as it spread across the social network into hundreds of thousands of variations—some just a few words from the original, but others centered on taxes, beer, or Star Wars’ villain Jabba the Hutt.

Im Gespräch mit dem Politik- und Digitalberater Martin Fuchs wird deutlich, wie dieser Trend die politische Debatte beeinflusst und wie die demokratische Meinungsbildung durch soziale Medien profitieren kann – wenn sie ernst genommen werden.

politik-digital.de: Social Media sind im politischen Alltag der Bundesrepublik  angekommen. Wie sind die Entwicklungen in der jüngeren Vergangenheit zu bewerten?

Martin Fuchs: Diese Entwicklung steht eng im Zusammenhang mit der sich verbessernden Verbreitung des Internetzugangs. Auf dieser Grundlage haben soziale Netzwerke eine größere Reichweite erhalten. Darin sehen die Politiker ein großes Potential, ihr Metier wieder attraktiv zu machen. Zum einen nutzen sie diese Plattformen dafür, um ihre Meinungen zu verbreiten. So tritt der Abgeordnete in direkten Kontakt zu den Bürgern, was den politischen Diskurs positiv beeinflusst. Zum anderen sind diese aber auch eine Möglichkeit, um Meinungsforschung zu betreiben. IBM Commits $1.2 Billion to Expand Global Cloud Footprint

Builds a Massive Network of Local Cloud Hubs for Businesses Worldwide with 40 Data Centers Across Five Continents

ARMONK, N.Y. – 17 Jan 2014: IBM today announced plans to commit  over $1.2 billion to significantly expand its global cloud footprint. This investment includes a network of cloud centers designed to bring clients greater flexibility, transparency and control over how they manage their data, run their business and deploy their IT operations locally in the cloud. 

This year IBM plans to deliver cloud services from 40 data centers worldwide in 15 countries and five continents globally, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.  IBM will open 15 new centers worldwide adding to the existing global footprint of 13 global data centers from SoftLayer and 12 from IBM. Among the newest data centers to launch are China, Washington, D.C., Hong Kong, London, Japan, India, Canada, Mexico City and Dallas. With this announcement, IBM plans to have data centers in all major geographies and financial centers with plans to expand in the Middle East and Africa in 2015.   (more…)

Targeted audiences and websites can help magazines weather the onslaught of online competition

TORONTO, ON — While print media continue to suffer at the hands of their online counterparts, new research from the University of Toronto Scarborough finds that print magazines with companion websites are able to attract more advertising dollars.

“Targeting is as important as ever,” says Ambarish Chandra, Assistant Professor at UTSC’s Department of Management. In a study of magazines in Germany, Prof. Chandra and Prof. Ulrich Kaiser of the University of Zurich found that magazines offering targeted advertising both in print and on the web can charge more from advertisers.
