*European Online Travel Industry Shows 11 Percent Growth in the Past Year*
LONDON, UK, June 1, 2011 – comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, today released an overview of internet usage in Europe, showing 365.3 million unique visitors went online in April 2011 for an average of 24.2 hours per person. This study draws its analysis from comScore’s research panel, which shows internet usage in 49 European markets aggregated under the European region and provides individual reports on 18 markets. Among the 18 markets, the Netherlands showed the highest average engagement at 31.3 hours per person, 30 percent higher than the collective European average. (more…)
A branch of the World Health Organization announced Tuesday cell phones are “possible carcinogens” — a statement that was met with skepticism from many American cancer experts.
The statement came from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which convened 30 international experts in Lyon, France, this past week to sort through data on cell phone safety, reports Lancaster Eagle Gazette. (more…)

Not allowed to advertise your booze or smokes on a billboard? That’s okay. Research shows online advertising works especially well in places with government ad bans.
“If you want to regulate the offline world, you have to remember that people have access online too and you have to think about how that online world is going to mitigate the effects of your regulation,” said Avi Goldfarb, a marketing professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management who co-wrote a study on the topic with Catherine Tucker of MIT’s Sloan School of Management. LONDON, UK, May 27, 2011 – comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service which showed that 20 million mobile users across the five leading European markets (UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy), representing 8.5 percent of mobile subscribers in these markets, accessed their bank account via a mobile phone in March 2011. Since August 2010, the first month this activity has been measured in MobiLens, there has been a 15.4 percent rise in mobile bankers which has been largely driven by smartphone users who accounted for 70 percent of the mobile banking market in March 2011.
