WWF fordert faire Ursachenanalyse

Nach der offiziellen Bekanntgabe der neuen EEG-Umlage für das kommende Jahr von 6,24 Cent je Kilowattstunde fordert der WWF eine faire Debatte über die Ursachen. Die Erhöhung der Umlage sei maßgeblich dem stark gesunkenen Börsenstrompreis geschuldet. Die niedrigen Börsenstrompreise, die auch durch erneuerbare Energien möglich geworden sind, würden jedoch nicht an den Normalverbraucher weitergegeben. Darüber hinaus trügen die ausufernden Rabatte für eine stetig steigende Anzahl von Industriekunden zum Ansteigen der Umlage für die nicht privilegierten Verbraucher bei. Der Ausbau weiterer EEG förderbarer Anlagen habe nur geringfügig die derzeitigen Kosten steigen lassen. „Das EEG wird immer weiter vollgepackt mit Industrierabatten, während Mittelstand und Normalbürger für die Energiewende zahlen. Dies ist nicht tragbar und muss schnell verändert werden“, sagt Eberhard Brandes, Vorstand des WWF Deutschland. (more…)

Researcher controls colleague’s motions in 1st human brain-to-brain interface

University of Washington researchers have performed what they believe is the first noninvasive human-to-human brain interface, with one researcher able to send a brain signal via the Internet to control the hand motions of a fellow researcher.

Using electrical brain recordings and a form of magnetic stimulation, Rajesh Rao sent a brain signal to Andrea Stocco on the other side of the UW campus, causing Stocco’s finger to move on a keyboard. (more…)

Nach der Wahl ist vor der Koalitionsverhandlung. Diskutiert werden dabei aktuell vor allem zwei Optionen: eine große Koalition aus Union und SPD – oder ein schwarz-grünes Bündnis. Greenpeace analysiert die möglichen Auswirkungen beider Konstellationen auf die Energie- und Klimapolitik.

Koalitionsverhandlungen haben ihre eigene Dynamik. Schon deshalb kann hier nur eine grobe Einschätzung gegeben werden. Wie die Energie- und Klimapolitik der jeweiligen Koalitionsoptionen tatsächlich aussehen könnte, hängt von vielen Faktoren ab: Welche Parteiflügel der jeweiligen Parteien setzen sich in welchen Einzelfragen durch? Welche Verhandlungsführer für das Politikfeld werden von den Parteien benannt? Welche Paketlösungen, Kompromisse und Zugeständnisse müssen die jeweiligen Parteien akzeptieren? Auf Basis der Wahlprogramme und Aussagen von Spitzen- und Fachpolitikern nehmen die Greenpeace-Energieexperten Tobias Austrup und Andree Böhling dennoch eine Einordnung vor. (more…)

Crossing your arms reduces the intensity of pain you feel when receiving a painful stimulus on the hand, according to research by scientists at UCL.

Published in the current issue of the journal PAIN, the research shows that crossing your arms over the midline (an imaginary line running vertically down the centre of the body) confuses the brain and reduces the intensity of the pain sensation. (more…)

Scientists to Spy on People’s Dreams and Thoughts

Until now it was believed that a person is unable to read the thoughts of fellow human beings. “Spying” on the dreams of another person appeared unrealistic. However, recent research by American scientists revealed that both these things are quite possible. Overly complex devices and paranormal abilities are not required to do so.

Recently, a respectable scientific journal Nature published an article that ten years ago would have been considered a fiction and would not have been publication at all. A group of American researchers led by Dr. Moran Cerf claims to have found a way to electronically records and decipher human dreams and thoughts. No complicated devices are required. The entire transcript can successfully go through an electroencephalograph – a device that for decades has been used by neuroscientists around the world. (more…)
