Oktober 2013  – comScore, Inc., eines der führenden Unternehmen in der Messung der digitalen Welt hat heute eine Analyse der Mobiltelefonnutzung in den fünf führenden europäischen Märkten (Frankreich, Deutschland, Italien, Vereinigtes Königreich und Spanien – zusammengefasst als EU5-Region) auf Basis von Daten des comScore MobiLens Service veröffentlicht. Die Studie zeigt, dass die mobile Nutzung von Retail–Webseiten im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 43 Prozent anstieg. 20,4 Prozent der EU5-Smartphone-Besitzer nutzen Retail Apps und Sites auf Ihrem Mobiltelefon. New platform offers IPv6 connectivity for any single sensor

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., ZARAGOZA and ZURICH – 21 Oct 2013: IBM and Libelium, a wireless sensor network hardware provider, today released an Internet of Things Starter Kit to enable dozens of sensor applications ranging from monitoring parking spaces or air pollution to providing assistance for the elderly.

Created by IBM scientists and Libelium engineers to ease application development, testing, and scalability of wireless sensor networks (WSN), the new Internet of Things Starter Kit integrates Libelium’s Waspmote wireless sensor platform with IBM’s Mote Runner software and 6LoWPAN, which allows every single sensor and device to connect directly to the Internet using the new IPv6 protocol. Made in IBM Labs: Two-Factor Security for Mobile Transactions

ZURICH – 18 Oct 2013: IBM scientists have developed a new mobile authentication security technology based on the radio standard known as near-field communication (NFC). The technology provides an extra layer of security when using an NFC-enabled device and a contactless smartcard to conduct mobile transactions, including online banking and digital signatures when accessing a corporate Intranet or private cloud.

According to a recent report by ABI Research, the number of NFC devices in use will exceed 500 million in 2014. This statistic and the fact that 1 billion mobile phone users will use their devices for banking purposes by 2017* make for an increasingly opportune target for hackers. (more…)

New study reveals most important skills for students

Research indicates Microsoft Office applications rank 3 of 20 top in demand skills for high-growth, high-pay careers.

REDMOND, Wash. — Top candidates for current and future jobs will be measured by capabilities and competencies, with 20 distinct skills bubbling up to the top in millions of high-growth, high-paying job postings, according to a white paper commissioned by Microsoft Corp. and released by IDC. The study provides insight into the skills students need for the top 60 high-growth, high-wage occupations that will account for 11.5 million new hires and 28 percent of job growth by 2020. Out of those skills, oral and written communication, detail orientation, and Microsoft Office proficiency top the list. (more…)

Mobile App Challenge offers innovators a chance to develop their ideas into real-world apps

The UChicago App Challenge is now open to any and all ideas from faculty, staff and students for mobile applications.

Back for a third year, the app challenge is run by IT Services, The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship, and UChicagoTech to give participants the chance to develop ideas while addressing a real problem or need.

“The app challenge has contributed to the overall environment of innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the University,” said Klara Jelinkova, senior associate vice president and chief information technology officer. “With all the great ideas circulating around this campus, the app challenge has given people without technical training a chance to join a team and create an app with high value to the entire community.” (more…)
