University of Michigan psychology researchers found that some cities lead with their heart—emotional and interpersonal strengths—while others lead with their head—intellectual and self-oriented strengths.

Many of the assumptions people have about black youth — that they are politically detached and negatively influenced by rap music and videos—are false stereotypes, according to a new University of Chicago study by
Prof. Cathy Cohen, based on surveys and conversations with the youth themselves.
Black youth say they are politically involved, critical of many messages in rap and skeptical of the idea that the country has entered a post–racial era. They also are socially conservative on political issues such same–sex marriage, said Cohen, the David and Mary Winton Green Professor of Political Science and lead researcher of the study. (more…)

REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 4, 2010 — Stop. Think. Connect.
That’s the message behind a major new online safety campaign that kicks off today and advises consumers about how to be safer online. Microsoft joined a large coalition of government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations to craft the slogan, which is the first unified public awareness message focused on online safety. Holland became the first NATO member to complete its mission within the scope of the international anti-terrorist coalition in Afghanistan. Holland was controlling the Uruzgan province; now the control has been officially handed over to US and Australian forces.
The Pentagon confirmed today that it could imprison the U.S. Army soldier, Bradley Manning, as the main factor in the dissemination of secret military documents related to Afghanistan. A spokesperson from the Department of Defense explained to CNN that Manning, 22, probably accessed the IT records of the Institution and downloaded thousands of files which he then resent via mail.
Hundreds of civilians were killed without public and official knowledge by coalition troops in Afghanistan. Secret plans to kill leaders of the extremist Taliban and Al Qaeda and the discussion of the alleged involvement of Iran and Pakistan in supporting the insurgents were recurring themes for military leaders.
The arrest of 10 alleged Russian spies in the United States suggests that Washington and Moscow are predestined to be eternal adversaries in a Cold War without end, despite a slight respite. Kindnesses and courtesies seemed to give the world hope for achieving the long sought after social peace sought after among all the peoples of all mankind.
