Die Krebstherapie beim Melanom hat in den letzten Jahren große Fortschritte gemacht. Dennoch kommt es immer wieder zur Ausbildung von Resistenzen, die zu einer fatalen Eskalation der Krankheit und letztlich zum Tod führen können. Dem Chemiker Christopher Gerner von der Universität Wien ist es durch die Analyse von Serumproben gelungen, Blutplättchen als wichtige Akteure in der Eskalation des Melanoms zu identifizieren. Die aktuellen Erkenntnisse wurden im amerikanischen Fachjournal “Molecular Cellular Proteomics” publiziert.
