This summer, the new Yale Center for Pulmonary Infection Research and Treatment (CPIRT) held its first meeting, with the goal of breathing fresh air into the science of lung infection. Conceived by associate professor Dr. Charles Dela Cruz as a cross-disciplinary hub for investigators, CPIRT brings together innovative minds from basic, translational, and clinical research areas across Yale. Blueberry concentrate improves brain function in older people

Drinking concentrated blueberry juice improves brain function in older people, according to research by the University of Exeter.

In the study, healthy people aged 65-77 who drank concentrated blueberry juice every day showed improvements in cognitive function, blood flow to the brain and activation of the brain while carrying out cognitive tests. There was also evidence suggesting improvement in working memory. (more…)

Tel Aviv, Israel – 16 Mar 2017: MedyMatch Technology today announced a collaboration with IBM (NYSE: IBM) Watson Health to bring MedyMatch’s A.I.-based clinical decision support application to imaging experts working in hospital emergency rooms and other acute care settings to help doctors identify instances of intracranial bleeding as a result of head trauma and stroke. Initially, IBM Watson Health’s Imaging group will distribute the MedyMatch brain bleed detection application globally through its vendor neutral sales channels. Forscherinnen und Forscher der Universität Tübingen haben gemeinsam mit Kollegen aus Deutschland und den USA ein Protein als wichtige „Stellschraube“ für die Entstehung von Entzündungen im menschlichen Körper genauer identifiziert. Wie Professor Alexander Weber aus der Abteilung Immunologie des Interfakultären Instituts für Zellbiologie berichtete, wird das Protein mit der Bezeichnung Brutons Tyrosinkinase, kurz BTK, bei der Aktivierung des Entzündungsgeschehens im menschlichen Körper eingeschaltet und spielt somit bei der anschließenden Entfaltung der Entzündung eine wesentliche Rolle.
