Team mit Freiburger Forschern hat neuen Ansatz für Therapie gegen B-Zell-akute lymphoblastische Leukämie entdeckt
Die B-Zell-akute lymphoblastische Leukämie (B-ALL) ist die häufigste Tumorerkrankung im Kindesalter und tritt auch bei Erwachsenen auf. Sie entsteht, wenn die Signalleitung in unreifen B-Zellen, auch prä-B-Zellen genannt, gestört ist. Das Team um Prof. Dr. Markus Müschen von der University of California in San Francisco/USA hat mit Unterstützung von Prof. Dr. Hassan Jumaa und Prof. Dr. Michael Reth vom Exzellenzcluster BIOSS Centre for Biological Signalling Studies der Universität Freiburg einen neuen Ansatz für die Therapie der B-ALL-Tumorerkrankung gefunden. Ihre Untersuchungen könnten ein Umdenken in den klinischen Ansätzen für die Therapie der Tumorerkrankung bewirken. As debate increases about whether female lacrosse players should wear headgear, a new study reports measurements of the accelerations that stick blows deliver to the head. The study also measured the dampening effect of various kinds of headgear.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Lacrosse players swing hard, which is why errant stick blows are the leading cause of concussion in girls’ and women’s lacrosse. In a new study, researchers measured how much the worst blows accelerate the head and how much different kinds of headgear could reduce those accelerations. (more…)
Freiburger Forschungsteam entdeckt Grundlage für die Untersuchung zur Ausbreitung der Viren
Neue Erkenntnisse darüber, wie sich das Ebolavirus im menschlichen Körper ausbreitet: Einem deutsch-amerikanischen Forschungsteam ist es gelungen, Kanäle in intrazellulären Membranen zu identifizieren, die für den Virustransport entscheidend sind. Diese Kanäle können mit einem Wirkstoff blockiert werden, was im Tiermodell zu einem Stopp der Infektion führte. Die Ergebnisse veröffentlichten die Arbeitsgruppen um den Freiburger Pharmakologen Prof. Dr. Norbert Klugbauer, die Pharmakologen Prof. Dr. Martin Biel und Prof. Dr. Christian Wahl von der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München sowie den Virologen Dr. Robert Davy vom Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio/USA in der aktuellen Ausgabe des Wissenschaftsmagazins Science. Entry of site in a community tied to 16% increase in HIV
Craigslist’s entry into a market results in a 15.9 percent increase in reported HIV cases, according to research from the University of Minnesota published in the December issue of MIS Quarterly. When mapped at the national level, more than 6,000 HIV cases annually and treatment costs estimated between $62 million and $65.3 million can be linked to the popular website. (more…)
