Windenergie: Zu viel Abstand zu Wohnbauflächen schadet der Energiewende

Bei 2.000 Metern Abstand bliebe bundesweit nur 3 Prozent der potentiellen Leistung

Deutschland hat ein großes Potenzial für die Windenergie an Land. Rund 13,8 Prozent der Landesfläche ließen sich prinzipiell für den Bau von Windenergieanlagen nutzen. Möglich wäre demnach eine installierte Windenergieleistung von bis zu 1.200 Gigawatt (GW). Ein pauschaler Abstand von zwei Kilometern zu Wohnbauflächen würde dieses Potenzial aber stark schrumpfen lassen, sodass rein rechnerisch nur noch 36 Gigawatt möglich wären. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommt eine neue Analyse des Umweltbundesamtes (UBA). Praktisch wäre der Verlust sogar noch größer, denn es gibt zahlreiche weitere Faktoren, die in Genehmigungsprozessen von Windenergieanlagen eine Rolle spielen. So sind zum Beispiel besonders geschützter Tierarten relevant, wenn es um die Nutzung einer Fläche für Windenergieanlagen geht. (more…)

Berkeley Lab Study Shows Significantly Higher Potential for Wind Energy in India than Previously Estimated

A new assessment of wind energy in India by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has found that the potential for on-shore wind energy deployment is far higher than the official estimates— about 20 times and up to 30 times greater than the current government estimate of 102 gigawatts. This landmark finding may have significant impact on India’s renewable energy strategy as it attempts to cope with a massive and chronic shortage of electricity.

“The main importance of this study, why it’s groundbreaking, is that wind is one of the most cost-effective and mature renewable energy sources commercially available in India, with an installed capacity of 15 GW and rising rapidly,” says Berkeley Lab scientist Amol Phadke, the lead author of the report. “The cost of wind power is now comparable to that from imported coal and natural gas-based plants, and wind can play a significant role in cost effectively addressing energy security and environmental concerns.” (more…)

Russian Nuclear Industry to Conquer Country of Pyramids

Russia is ready to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt at its own expense, to manage the plant, and even find markets for the electricity. Early next year Egypt is expected to announce a tender for the construction of nuclear power plant with the capacity of 1 GW 150 km from Alexandria. Russia’s Rosatom will participate in the tender.

A meeting of Russian-Egyptian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation was held on Monday. From the Russian side it was chaired by the Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Khristenko. (more…)
