Amazon Web Services Announces “Read Replicas” for Amazon Relational Database Service – Delivering Added Scalability for High Traffic Web Applications

SEATTLE, Oct 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Amazon Web Services LLC, an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), today announced Read Replicas, a new feature for Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) that makes it even easier to scale MySQL database deployments to meet the performance demands of high-traffic web applications. Read Replicas allow customers to create one or more copies of a given MySQL Database Instance, which allows an application to serve read traffic from multiple database replicas. Customers can create or delete replicas in minutes using the intuitive point-and-click interface of the AWS Management Console. Ancient Colorado River Flowed Backwards

Palo Alto, CA — Geologists have found evidence that some 55 million years ago a river as big as the modern Colorado flowed through Arizona into Utah in the opposite direction from the present-day river. Writing in the October issue of the journal Geology, they have named this ancient northeastward-flowing river the California River, after its inferred source in the Mojave region of southern California. Dinosaurs Significantly Taller than Previously Thought

COLUMBIA, Mo.– It might seem obvious that a dinosaur’s leg bone connects to the hip bone, but what came between the bones has been less obvious. Now, researchers at the University of Missouri and Ohio University have found that dinosaurs had thick layers of cartilage in their joints, which means they may have been considerably taller than previously thought.
