Red Fox was introduced in Australia from Europe in 1855 for recreational purposes – mainly for hunting. Its scientific name is Vulpes vulpes. But what happened afterwards is that, it turned to a predator. Predator of native animals and livestocks – an invasive species!!

How we go about doing fishing? Yes, it’s about fishing. Every year about 20 million tons of fish are caught in nets that are not targeted for. These are ‘by-catches’ (extra, not the target fish), CNN reports via IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).

These are compounds that were produced as industrial chemicals (man-made organic compounds, synthetic) and used in lubricating oils, paints, in carbonless copy paper (non-carbon copy paper – an alternative to carbon paper), in electrical insulators and in many other industrial and commercial products.

Amazon, Rainforest and the miserable animals

According to January 2008 Greenpeace report Amazon deforestation rate is high again although local officials claim the opposite. Greenpeace assumes that in 2007 from August – December, 7000 sq. km of the rainforest has been destroyed.

Banning Turtle Hunting, Cuba is fast forward in Environmental Policies

As Cuba was exporting turtle shells, it had a quota of 500 hawksbill (hawk-like beak, hence the name) turtles a year. But now Cuban Government responded to the call of conservationists and banned the hunt, reports Reuters and blogged in TreeHugger.

Mr. Splashy Pants & his friends

He is a humpback whale tracked via satellite by Greenpeace in an effort to protect him and his friends from harpooning mainly from the Japanese whale hunters. Humpbacks are migratory who travel thousands of kilometers from their feeding grounds in the Southern Ocean (Polar waters) to the tropical South Pacific for breeding and calving in Winter. (more…)
