The Chaiten Volcano after 9,000 years

The Chaiten volcano in southern Chile sprung to life for the first time in thousands of years. The powerful eruption sent ash more than 20 km into the sky and caused a poor visibility in the area. After drifting across Argentina (the southern most country), the plume of ash dissipated over the Atlantic.

Red Fox was introduced in Australia from Europe in 1855 for recreational purposes – mainly for hunting. Its scientific name is Vulpes vulpes. But what happened afterwards is that, it turned to a predator. Predator of native animals and livestocks – an invasive species!!

How we go about doing fishing? Yes, it’s about fishing. Every year about 20 million tons of fish are caught in nets that are not targeted for. These are ‘by-catches’ (extra, not the target fish), CNN reports via IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).

Soil pollution from PCBs

These are compounds that were produced as industrial chemicals (man-made organic compounds, synthetic) and used in lubricating oils, paints, in carbonless copy paper (non-carbon copy paper – an alternative to carbon paper), in electrical insulators and in many other industrial and commercial products.

Amazon, Rainforest and the miserable animals

According to January 2008 Greenpeace report Amazon deforestation rate is high again although local officials claim the opposite. Greenpeace assumes that in 2007 from August – December, 7000 sq. km of the rainforest has been destroyed.

White Killer Whales
