New platform designed to support trade finance transactions

4 October, 2017 – 04 Oct 2017: Bank of Montreal (BMO), CaixaBank, Commerzbank and Erste Group have joined an initiative launched by UBS and IBM (NYSE: IBM) in 2016 to build a new global trade platform based on blockchain technology. This new platform, called Batavia, is built to be openly accessed by organisations of all sizes anywhere in the world, and can support trade finance for transactions across all modes of trade, whether goods are being transported by air, land or sea. In energy policy, political polarization often gets in the way of commonsense solutions to problems.

General Electric recently announced a technological advance that would allow pipeline companies to use drone-mounted cameras to inspect their lines for corrosion and leaks. This is the kind of development that could, with the right regulatory support, make huge strides toward preventing costly and harmful spills and solving other important problems afflicting America’s aging pipeline infrastructure. Als Reaktion auf den Dieselskandal sollten die Steuervorteile des Diesels innerhalb der Europäischen Union (EU) komplett gestrichen werden. In Deutschland beispielsweise würde Diesel dann zwar an der Zapfsäule etwa 20 Cent pro Liter teurer. Im Gegenzug könnten aber die CO2-Emissionen und der Ausstoß von Stickoxiden (NOX) innerhalb von fünf Jahren in Deutschland oder auch in Frankreich um jeweils etwa 10 Prozent gesenkt werden. Denn vor allem Dieselfahrer reagieren auf Spritsteuererhöhungen deutlich preissensibler als bisher angenommen: Bei einem Preisanstieg von 20 Cent pro Liter würden sie etwa 14 Prozent weniger Kraftstoff tanken. Jedes Jahr bekommen 108 von 1.000 Mädchen zwischen 15 und 19 Jahren in Afrika ein Kind – das ist mehr als jede Zehnte. In Deutschland dagegen sind es acht pro 1.000 junger Frauen.
