Wissenschaftler finden bildgebende Methode, um Befall im Körper sichtbar zu machen
Sie sind winzig klein, überall in der Luft und jeder von uns atmet sie täglich ein: Sporen des Schimmelpilzes Aspergillus fumigatus. Gesunden Menschen bereitet das in der Regel keine Probleme, die körpereigene Immunabwehr tötet die Eindringlinge, bevor sie sich im Körper festsetzen können. Bei Menschen, deren Immunsystem jedoch stark geschwächt ist – etwa Leukämie- oder AIDS-Patienten sowie Knochenmarkempfängern – nistet sich der Pilz ohne große Gegenwehr in der Lunge ein und verursacht dort die sogenannte invasive Aspergillose. Diese gefährliche Infektionskrankheit ist eine der häufigsten Todesursachen bei immungeschwächten Patienten. Eine frühzeitige und auf die Patienten abgestimmte Therapie ist für den Krankheitsverlauf entscheidend, wurde aber bisher durch den Mangel an schnellen und gleichzeitig zuverlässigen Diagnosemöglichkeiten erschwert.

Mit einem an der Universität Freiburg entwickelten Analysetool können Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer im Fernsehen übertragene Debatten von Politikerinnen und Politikern in Echtzeit bewerten. Ein Team um Prof. Dr. Uwe Wagschal vom Seminar für Wissenschaftliche Politik und Prof. Dr. Bernd Becker vom Institut für Informatik der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität testete den DEBAT-O-METER bei der Diskussion zwischen dem baden-württembergischen Ministerpräsidenten Winfried Kretschmann und dem Spitzenkandidaten der CDU für die Landtagswahl Guido Wolf, die der Südwestrundfunk am 14. Januar 2016 live im Fernsehen ausstrahlte. Es war das erste Mal, dass eine solche rein software-basierte Anwendung zur Bewertung politische Diskussionen in Deutschland zum Einsatz kam.
