Berkeley Lab research could lead to applications in agriculture, industry

In research that could lead to better gas mask filters, scientists at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have been putting the X-ray spotlight on composite materials in respirators used by the military, police, and first responders, and the results have been encouraging. What they are learning not only provides reassuring news about the effectiveness of current filters in protecting people from lethal compounds such as VX and sarin, but they also provide fundamental information that could lead to more advanced gas masks as well as protective gear for civilian applications. Leben auf der Erde wird erst durch die sogenannte CO₂Fixierung während der Photosynthese möglich: Pflanzen nehmen Kohlenstoffdioxid auf und verwandeln es in organische Moleküle wie z.B. Glucose. A new study by geochemists from Brown University suggests that Earth’s mantle varies in composition over kilometer-sized pockets.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — New research by Brown University geochemists provides new insights on the scale at which Earth’s mantle varies in chemical composition. Witchcraft labels are a mechanism to harm female competitors and profoundly affect the structure of social networks, according to new UCL-led research.

The study, published in Nature Human Behaviour and funded by the European Research Council, quantifies the impact of witchcraft labels, such as ‘zhu’ used in rural China, on communities including their influence on social life and how social networks are structured. (more…)
