Simulationen zeigen, wie viel Wasser auf Proxima Centauri b vorhanden sein könnte
Erst 2016 haben WissenschafterInnen mit Proxima Centauri b den der Erde nächstgelegenen und potenziell bewohnbaren Exoplaneten entdeckt. Sogleich stellte sich die grundlegende Frage, ob dieser auch ausreichend Wasser auf seiner Oberfläche besitzt, dass dort Leben existieren könnte. Ein Forschungsteam der Universität Wien und der Universität Abu Dhabi hat nun mit Hilfe von Simulationen herausgefunden, dass dazu aufgrund der starken Strahlungsausbrüche der Sonne die Eisressourcen auf Kometen notwendig wären. Die Ergebnisse der Studie wurden kürzlich in der Printausgabe von “Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society” publiziert. (more…)
