Neuer LED-Leuchtstoff spart Energie
Das menschliche Auge ist für Grün besonders empfindlich, für Blau und Rot hingegen weniger. Chemiker um Hubert Huppertz haben nun einen neuen roten Leuchtstoff entwickelt, dessen Licht vom Auge gut wahrgenommen wird. Damit lässt sich die Lichtausbeute von weißen LEDs um rund ein Sechstel steigern, was die Energieeffizienz von Beleuchtungssystemen deutlich verbessern kann. (more…)

New insights about carbon and ice could clarify inner workings of Earth, other planets
Most people behave differently when under extreme pressure. Carbon and ice are no different.
Two new studies show how these key planetary ingredients take on exotic forms that could help researchers better understand the composition of Earth’s core as well as the cores of planets across the galaxy. Craig Manning, a UCLA professor of geology and geochemistry, is a co-senior author of one of the papers, which was published in the journal Nature, and senior author of the other, which was published in Nature Communications in February. Das Projekt freiburg-postkolonial.de hat zwei Schädel aus der Alexander-Ecker-Sammlung zur weiteren Erforschung ihrer Herkunft an das Universitätsarchiv der Universität Freiburg übergeben. Die beiden menschlichen Schädel und die zugehörigen Unterkiefer waren im April 2019 – wenige Tage nach der Übergabe menschlicher Schädel an eine australische Delegation in Stuttgart – im informationszentrum 3. welt (iz3w) anonym hinterlegt worden.
