Soll Cannabis zu medizinischen Zwecken legalisiert werden oder bleibt es eine illegale Droge? Dies wird seit Jahren in vielen Ländern diskutiert ‒ und ist doch schon wesentlich länger Streitpunkt als gedacht: Bereits im Mexiko des 18. Jahrhunderts warb der Priester und Wissenschaftler José Antonio Alzate y Ramírez für die heilende Wirkung der umstrittenen Pflanze – und legte sich dabei mit der spanischen Kolonialmacht und der Inquisition an. Die Historikerin Dr. Laura Dierksmeier vom Sonderforschungsbereich RessourcenKulturen an der Universität Tübingen untersucht die damalige öffentliche Auseinandersetzung dazu in Mexiko. Ihre Studie „Forbidden herbs: Alzate’s defense of ‚pipiltzintzintlis‘“ wurde am 07. Juli im Journal Colonial Latin American Review veröffentlicht. (more…)
Those who wish for revolution should be wary, a new book by Dan Chirot warns; they might come to regret that wish should revolution become a violent reality.
Chirot is a professor in the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies and of sociology. His latest book, “You Say You Want a Revolution: Radical Idealism and its Tragic Consequences” was published in March by Princeton University Press. He is the author or co-author of many articles and several books, most recently “The Shape of the New: Four Big Ideas and How They Made the Modern World” (with Jackson School colleague Scott Montgomery, 2015). Forscher*innen rekonstruieren Migrationsbewegungen mithilfe antiker DNA
Schon vor der Zeit der mediterranen Seefahrerzivilisationen gab es prähistorische Wanderungen aus Afrika, Asien und Europa auf die Mittelmeerinseln. Das hat ein Team um den Anthropologen Ron Pinhasi von der Universität Wien gemeinsam mit Forscher*innen der Universität Florenz und der Universität Harvard anhand antiker DNA-Proben festgestellt. Im Zentrum der Untersuchungen standen prähistorische Individuen aus Sizilien, Sardinien und den Balearen. Die Ergebnisse erscheinen in Nature Ecology & Evolution.

After the resumption of international flights declared by the Civil Aviation Ministry, all the international airways have issued their SOP’s to control COVID-19 and the safe traveling of passengers. It is reported by the CVA, not allowing any person to get entered into the airports without the confirmation on web check-in. whereas, no physical registration is permitted at any counters of the airports. Before pandemic, it was quite easy to get cheap flights, but it’s currently hard to get them economically. By maintaining the distance between seats and high precautionary measures, the COVID-19 has wholly changed the rate of demand-supply and the overall expenses of air flights. (more…)
