ATV “Georges Lemaitre” soll am 12. August die Raumstation erreichen

Mit dem fünften Raumfrachter endet die Ära der europäischen ISS-Transporter – Interview mit DLR ATV-Programm-Manager Volker Schmid

Nach seinem Bilderbuchstart am 30. Juli 2014 ist das fünfte und letzte Versorgungsraumschiff der europäischen ATV-Reihe auf dem Weg zur Internationalen Raumstation ISS. Der nach dem belgischen Begründer der Urknall-Theorie “Georges Lemaitre” benannte Frachter, der ungefähr so groß ist wie ein Londoner Doppeldeckerbus und inklusive Gepäck mehr als 20 Tonnen wiegt, soll am 12. August um 15.34 Uhr Mitteleuropäischer Sommerzeit an der Raumstation andocken und für mindestens fünf Monate die ISS mit Treibstoff, Nahrung und neuen Experimenten versorgen. Deutschland war federführend am ATV-Programm der Europäischen Weltraumagentur ESA beteiligt und hat rund 48 Prozent der Beiträge des rund 3 Milliarden schweren Programms finanziert. Die Rolle und Bedeutung dieses komplexesten jemals in Europa gebauten Raumtransporters erläutert Volker Schmid, ATV-Programm-Manager beim Raumfahrtmanagement des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR).
