Neue Exoplanetenmission ARIEL mit Beteiligung der Universität Wien
Die Europäische Weltraumagentur ESA hat das Weltraumobservatorium ARIEL als neue Exoplanetenmission mit geplantem Start im Jahr 2028 ausgewählt. Das Institut für Astrophysik der Universität Wien ist maßgeblich an der Mission beteiligt. ARIELs Ziel ist es, fundamentale Fragen zur Entstehung und Evolution von extrasolaren Planetensystemen zu beantworten. Während ihrer vierjährigen Mission wird ARIEL 1.000 Planeten in der Umlaufbahn um andere Sterne beobachten und die chemische Zusammensetzung von Planetenatmosphären untersuchen.

Someone I know was in a minor car crash recently. The car was hit from behind by a driver who was using a cellphone, causing damage to both vehicles, but nobody was hurt. The police were called, and though the officer was told that the driver who caused the crash was using a cellphone, no tickets were issued. The officer left without filing any kind of accident report. (more…)
