Microsoft’s First Annual Global BizSpark One Summit Brings Tech Startup Companies Together in Silicon Valley

Executives from dozens of the world’s most promising technology startups are coming together today in Mountain View, Calif., to explore the challenges and best approaches to creating new technologies and businesses. The Microsoft BizSpark One Summit is the first annual gathering of participants in BizSpark One, a program that offers Microsoft technologies and gives support to young companies pioneering new business and technologies.

The Netherlands Leads Europe in Online Visit Frequency

The data revealed that the Netherlands ranked highest among European countries in terms of frequency of internet visitation with 78.2 visits per visitor in September 2010. Dutch internet users also exhibit strong engagement with an average of 31.9 hours per visitor spent online in September 2010. Samsung Electronics Completes Windows 7 Deployment in Korean Offices

REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 22, 2010 —

Microsoft Corp. today announced that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a Windows 7 Enterprise customer and the flagship company of the Samsung Group, has completed deployment of Windows 7 throughout its offices in South Korea, the global headquarters of the consumer electronics manufacturing company. Samsung Electronics’ offices in South Korea house a majority of the company’s 150,000 employees worldwide.

To reduce the amount of time spent managing its client computing environment, Samsung Electronics upgraded to the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system and the Windows Internet Explorer 8 browser across its offices in South Korea. As a result of the deployment, Samsung Electronics has enhanced IT security; simplified IT maintenance, which resulted in a 20 percent cost savings; reduced power consumption by 34 percent; and significantly improved employee productivity. Microsoft Makes Its Largest Technology Donation Ever to a Single Los Angeles School to Help Prepare Students for Their Future

Microsoft Corp. today announced it is providing the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools with a more than $1 million grant to purchase new software and hardware for the two schools at the Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez Learning Center. This grant will help bring state-of-the-art technology to the campus, helping bridge the technology gap of this underserved community. The grant also includes a $50,000 cash donation portion that will provide for ongoing technical support, teacher and student training, curriculum, and mentoring opportunities for students to learn about and explore careers. The goal is to create an instructional model that can be replicated and scaled throughout Los Angeles Unified School District and elevate teacher and student technology skills, thereby preparing youth for the competitive Los Angeles and U.S. job market. Microsoft education executives and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the sizeable donation this morning at a press conference at Mendez, where city leaders, school leaders, teachers and students saw a preview of the new software and technology.
