Wie ein Umweltöstrogen die menschliche Plazenta passiert

ForscherInnen zeigen Weg von Zearalenon durch den Mutterleib mittels neuer Technologie

Frühkindliches Leben im Mutterleib gilt als besonders empfindlich gegenüber Umweltschadstoffen. Ein Team um Benedikt Warth von der Fakultät für Chemie der Universität Wien und Tina Bürki vom Schweizer Materialforschungsinstitut Empa konnte nun erstmals nachweisen, wie sich das verbreitete Lebensmittelöstrogen Zearalenon im Mutterleib verbreitet. Mittels einer neuen analytischen Methode zeigte sich, dass das Fremdöstrogen die Plazenta durchwandern kann und zu bedenklichen Stoffwechselprodukten umgewandelt wird. Die Studie ist aktuell in der Fachzeitschrift “Environmental Health Perspectives” erschienen.
