Das Archaeon Metallosphaera sedula kann außerirdisches Material aufnehmen und verarbeiten. Das zeigt ein internationales Team um Astrobiologin Tetyana Milojevic, die mikrobielle Fingerabdrücke auf dem Meteoritengestein untersucht. Die ForscherInnen kommen außerdem zum Schluss, dass M. sedula das Gestein von Meteoriten schneller besiedelt als jenes irdischen Ursprungs. Die Ergebnisse erscheinen in Scientific Reports.
