Microsoft Survey Highlights Cloud Movement Across the US

*Microsoft today named some of the country’s top “cloud-friendly” U.S. cities. The rankings are based on the results of an extensive survey in which 2,000 IT decision makers nationwide discussed how they are adopting and using cloud computing.*

REDMOND, Wash. – Jan. 12, 2011 – The forecast for cloud computing across key U.S. cities calls for new lines of business, more need for IT services, and potential job growth, according to a new survey released today by Microsoft.

NC State and IBM Researchers Discover New Way to Patch Holes in The ‘Cloud’

Researchers from North Carolina State University and IBM have invented a way to update computer systems packaged in virtual machines in a computer “cloud” – even when those programs are offline.

The new cloud computing patch tool developed by NC State and IBM is called Nuwa and protects virtual machines (VMs) from cyber-attacks by ensuring that they always receive important security upgrades. In addition, the researchers have determined that offline application of security patches is more than four times faster than online patch application. The tool is named after a Chinese goddess who patched a hole in the sky. (more…)

BUCHAREST, Romania, – 03 Nov 2010: IBM today announced it has been selected a RoGrid will use 286 compute nodes of IBM System x and BladeCenter servers at six Romanian universities that are linked together using cloud computing technologies to provide RoGrid with an overall computing capacity of 25.7 trillion calculations per second and a storage capacity equivalent to the contents of books made from 6.5 million trees. IBM Opens the First Multipurpose Cloud Computing Center in Poland

WARSAW, Poland & WROCLAW, Poland – 29 Jul 2010: IBM Poland (NYSE: IBM)  and the Wroclaw University of Technology today announced an agreement to establish the first university cloud computing center in Poland. As part of the partnership, the Wroclaw University of Technology will create a new academic curriculum, making cloud-focused courses available to more than 1500 students.
