Unlocking the secrets of ice
The complex properties of water and ice are not well understood but a team from UCL and the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source have revealed new information about a phase of ice called ‘ice II’. (more…)

Findings could shed light on human health concerns and autism
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Past studies have shown that biparental care of offspring can be affected negatively when females and males are exposed to bisphenol A (BPA); however, previous studies have not characterized how long-term effects of BPA exposure in grandmothers and grandfathers might affect offspring communication ability. Scientists demonstrate how organic dyes work as antennas to help harness, convert light
An international team of scientists has demonstrated a breakthrough in the design and function of nanoparticles that could make solar panels more efficient by converting light usually missed by solar cells into usable energy. (more…)
UD’s Salil Lachke identifies new mechanism essential for eye lens development
If you want to take clear photographs, you don’t use sandpaper to clear a smudge from your camera’s lens. Similarly, if you want to see clearly, the lens of your eye has to be free of obstruction. (more…)
Stellarators, fusion facilities with a “twisty” design, have long played second fiddle to doughnut-shaped tokamaks that better confine the plasma that fuels fusion reactions. Now, in a development with major implications for the effort to replicate on Earth the fusion reactions that power the sun and stars to produce a virtually limitless supply of electricity, an international collaboration led by Princeton University has won a major private grant to create the framework for an optimum stellarator that combines the best features of both types of fusion reactors.
