Weltrekordversuch im Marathon: Wie schnell ist die Strecke in Wien?

Forschungsteam analysiert Streckenprofil in Prater Hauptallee

Eliud Kipchoge aus Kenia, derzeit schnellster Mensch über die Marathondistanz, wird voraussichtlich am kommenden Samstag im Wiener Prater versuchen, als erster Mensch einen Marathon unter zwei Stunden zu laufen. Im Mai 2018 war ein ähnlicher Versuch in Monza knapp gescheitert. Diesmal wurde mit der Hauptallee eine Strecke ausgewählt, die schneller als jene in Monza sein soll und nur unwesentlich langsamer als eine theoretische Idealstrecke ohne Steigungen und Kurven. ForscherInnen aus Österreich und den USA haben einen Vergleich einer theoretischen Idealstrecke ohne Steigungen und Kurven mit der Strecke im Wiener Prater angestellt. (more…)

As Walgreens embarked on plans to create a new type of retail experience for customers more than a year ago, it realized that an innovative approach to training employees was in order.

Walgreens employees were used to consulting with customers on the best beauty products, filling photo orders, dispensing medications and providing personalized health and wellness information. But selling fresh produce, delivering groceries to vehicles and helping customers find ingredients for dinner — that was all new, and potentially challenging. (more…)

Suntanner, Heal Thyself: Exosome Therapy May Enable Better Repair of Sun, Age-Damaged Skin

In the future, you could be your very own fountain of youth – or at least your own skin repair reservoir. In a proof-of-concept study, researchers from North Carolina State University have shown that exosomes harvested from human skin cells are more effective at repairing sun-damaged skin cells in mice than popular retinol or stem cell-based treatments currently in use. Additionally, the nanometer-sized exosomes can be delivered to the target cells via needle-free injections. (more…)
