Landesapothekerverband Baden-Württemberg: Bei Tütenverzicht der Kunden spenden Apotheker an die Umweltschützer

Stuttgart/Berlin – Der Landesapothekerverband Baden-Württemberg und der WWF sagen den Plastiktüten den Kampf an: Am 1. Juli startet die gemeinsame „Aktion Tütenlos“, mit der die Kundinnen und Kunden der Apotheker zum bewussteren Umgang mit Plastiktüten animiert werden sollen. Ziel ist es, den Verbrauch der umweltschädlichen Einwegtaschen zu senken. Pro eingesparter Tüte spenden die Apotheker zudem einen „Umweltcent“ an den WWF und unterstützen so zusätzlich die Umweltschutzarbeit der Organisation. (more…)

A unique rapid-fire electron source—originally built as a prototype for driving next-generation X-ray lasers—will help scientists at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) study ultrafast chemical processes and changes in materials at the atomic scale. Die weltweite Lebenserwartung ist seit dem Jahr 2000 um fünf Jahre auf 71,4 Jahre gestiegen (Frauen: 73,8 Jahre, Männer: 69,1 Jahre). Wenngleich Afrika bei der Lebenserwartung aufgeholt hat, bleiben erhebliche regionale Unterschiede bestehen.

Während eine europäische Frau im Durchschnitt 81 Jahre alt wird (Mann: 75), stirbt eine afrikanische Frau durchschnittlich mit nur 63 Jahren (Mann: 59 Jahre). Das geht aus den World Health Statistics 2016 der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) hervor. (more…)

Is hair the root to understanding our stress levels?

Women with lower incomes have higher concentrations of the stress hormone cortisol in their hair, according to a new study from UCL.

The study also found that women whose income has gone up over the last 4 years have lower cortisol levels than those whose income went down, suggesting an association between long-term financial strain and stress hormones. (more…)
