Surprise: A virus-like protein is important for cognition and memory
A protein involved in cognition and storing long-term memories looks and acts like a protein from viruses. Diese Ergebnisse publizieren die Freiburger Biologen Theresa Schredelseker und Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Driever in der Fachzeitschrift „Development“. Microsoft tests a datacenter under the sea
Microsoft is leveraging technology from submarines and working with pioneers in marine energy for the second phase of its moonshot to develop self-sufficient underwater datacenters that can deliver lightning-quick cloud services to coastal cities. An experimental, shipping-container-size prototype is processing workloads on the seafloor near Scotland’s Orkney Islands, Microsoft announced today. (more…)

Bei Fossilienfunden sind allerdings überwiegend nur harte Strukturen wie Knochen oder Zähne erhalten. Wie sich allerdings Weichteile evolutionär entwickelt haben, ist ungleich schwerer herauszufinden, da diese nur äußerst selten in Fossilien erhalten sind. (more…)
