Die Rückkehr von Zellen in einen stammzellähnlichen Zustand als Schlüssel zur Regeneration
Viele Lebewesen sind in der Lage, beschädigtes oder verlorenes Gewebe zu regenerieren, aber warum einige das besonders gut können und andere nicht, ist nicht restlos geklärt. Einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Klärung dieser Frage lieferten nun die Molekularbiolog*innen Alexander Stockinger, Leonie Adelmann und Florian Raible von den Max Perutz Labs an der Universität Wien in einer neuen Studie. Darin erklären sie den molekularen Mechanismus der Regeneration bei Meereswümern und schaffen damit besseres Verständnis für die natürliche Reprogrammierungsfähigkeit von Zellen.
