Matthew Green is an assistant professor of physics at NC State. He was involved in a multi-institutional research project aimed at detecting a process called Coherent Elastic Neutrino Nuclear Scattering (CEvNS). Innsbrucker Quantenphysiker haben nun ein Verfahren entwickelt, mit dem unterschiedlich kodierte Bauteile wie Prozessor und Speicher miteinander verbunden werden können. „Wir brauchen keine Wolfshatz“: WWF fordert Herdenschutz statt Jagdrecht.
Aktuell sind in Deutschland 60 Wolfsrudel bestätigt. Das geht aus einer Erhebung des Bundesamtes für Naturschutz (BfN) und der Dokumentations- und Beratungsstelle des Bundes zum Wolf (DBBW) hervor, die am Mittwoch in Berlin vorgelegt wurde. Die Zahlen hätten eigentlich bereits vor zwei Wochen veröffentlicht werden sollen. Eine bereits angesetzte Pressekonferenz war jedoch wegen Querschüssen aus den Bundesländern wieder abgesagt worden. Frauen, die wegen einem Schädel-Becken-Missverhältnis ihrer Mutter durch Kaiserschnitt auf die Welt kamen, entwickeln mehr als doppelt so häufig ein Missverhältnis bei der Geburt ihrer Kinder als jene Frauen, die natürlich geboren wurden. Zu diesem Schluss kommen EvolutionsbiologInnen der Universität Wien um Philipp Mitteröcker, die in einem mathematischen Modell das scheinbar paradoxe Phänomen erklären, dass die Rate an Geburtsproblemen durch natürliche Selektion nicht verringert werden konnte. Throughout the universe, supersonic shock waves propel cosmic rays and supernova particles to velocities near the speed of light. The most high-energy of these astrophysical shocks occur too far outside the solar system to be studied in detail and have long puzzled astrophysicists. Shocks closer to Earth can be detected by spacecraft, but they fly by too quickly to probe a wave’s formation. (more…)
