We all know about the harm that can be caused by pesticides. While being misused, pesticides can have a negative impact on the plants, animals and human health. Animals that eat the treated with pesticides plants, have a small amount of pesticides left in their organisms. Being a food to a human, such animals represent a certain risk to human health. Not only the meat can be intoxicated with pesticides but also eggs, milk and the further products of milk production.

While working with pesticides, people accumulate them in the organism, what, in turn, may lead to the chronic diseases. Human needs have increased immensely, and people nowadays can’t eliminate the use of pesticides. (more…)

Oil and gas development continues to press into the most remote corners of the western Amazon, one of the most biologically and culturally diverse zones on Earth. Now a study proposes a new 10-point, best-practice framework that combines technical engineering criteria with consideration of ecological and social concerns to reduce the negative impacts of Amazonian hydrocarbon exploration and production.

The researchers say, for example, that by using extended reach drilling (ERD), a technique to reach a larger subsurface area from one surface drilling location, it is possible to greatly reduce the total number of needed drilling platforms and access roads for a given project. (more…)

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A University of Florida study demonstrates extinction’s ripple effect through the animal kingdom, including how the demise of large mammals 20,000 years ago led to the disappearance of one species of cowbird.

The study shows the trickle-down effect the loss of large mammals has on other species, and researchers say it is a lesson from the past that should be remembered when making conservation, game and land-use decisions today. (more…)
