Diamond, Lesotho and the Happy Minister

Completely surrounded by South Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho, 80% of the country lying 1800 m above sea level, produced one of the largest diamonds in the world.

The diamond weighs about 500 carats and could be sold more than $12 M comparing with a similar but low quality gem. Lesotho’s Minister for natural resources hailed the productivity of the Letseng Mine where the diamond was mined by the mining group Gem Diamond. However, the Lesotho Government owns only 30% of the Letseng Mine. The rest belongs to the mining group.

Humm…….what’s going on there?! 🙂

One thing is still missing – a name for this valuable piece – a very beautiful name. Have ideas? 💡
