Im Rahmen des Projekts VolcATS-Vehicle (Volcanic Ash Impact on the Air Transport System) erforschen Wissenschaftler des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) die Auswirkungen von Vulkanasche auf Luftfahrzeuge. Im Fokus stehen dabei die Auswirkungen der Asche auf das Triebwerk sowie der Einfluss von Vulkanasche auf die Leistung von Luftfahrzeugen durch verschmutzte Flugdatensensoren sowie Navigations- und Kommunikationseinrichtungen.
