On 4 September 2010, a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the South Island of New Zealand near Christchurch. The earthquake’s epicentre was 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of Christchurch, near the town of Darfield. Its known as the Canterbury earthquake or Darfield earthquake. The massive earthquake distorted railroad tracks that crossed the fault line near Rolleston.

Viele Keime und Spurenstoffe in Abwasser könnten kostengünstig ausgefiltert werden
Eine zusätzliche Reinigungsstufe in Kläranlagen könnte mit geringem Aufwand große Mengen an Schadstoffen aus dem Abwasser entfernen und die Wasserqualität von Flüssen deutlich verbessern. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler in einem von der Universität Tübingen koordinierten Forschungsprojekt. Sie haben im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung untersucht, wie effizient weitergehende Abwasserreinigung in Kläranlagen und Regenwasserbehandlungssystemen neuartige Verschmutzungen in Flüssen beseitigt. Wie die WissenschafterInnen herausgefunden haben, bringen wir für Menschen, die unabsichtlich Schaden angerichtet haben, mehr Verständnis auf, wenn diese Region höher entwickelt ist. Clue to how cancer cells spread
In a second human case, a Yale-led research team has found that a melanoma cell and a white blood cell can fuse to form a hybrid with the ability to metastasize.
