Erstmals konnte ein internationales Wissenschaftlerteam Genmaterial von ägyptischen Mumien aus der Zeit um 1.400 v. Chr. bis 400 n. Chr. umfassend rekonstruieren und analysieren. Bei drei Individuen konnte das Team unter Führung von Professor Johannes Krause sowie weiteren Forscherinnen und Forschern der Universität Tübingen und des Max-Planck-Instituts für Menschheitsgeschichte in Jena sogar das Genom entschlüsseln.
