der Norden - North
der Süden - South
der Osten - East
der Westen - West
Examples:
in Richtung Norden - toward north/northbound
in Richtung Süden – toward south/southbound
in Richtung Osten - toward east/eastbound
in Richtung Westen – toward west/westbound
nach Norden - to a northward direction
nach Süden - to a southward direction
nach Osten - to a eastward direction
nach Westen - to a westward direction
In the above photo ‚in dieser Richtung‘ means ‘in this direction’
Some other important expressions concerning directions:
geradeaus - straight ahead (Ex. Gehen Sie geradeaus – Go straight ahead)
nach rechts – to the right
nach links – to the left
Ex. Zuerst geradeaus, dann an der Kreuzung nach rechts - First go straight ahead, then turn right at the crossroads
