*Study of Chinese citizens says jobs more important than salary when it comes to pro-environmental behavior*

People with good jobs found in large cities are more likely to engage in pro-environmental activities. So says a new study of China’s environmental behavior published this week in the British journal Environmental Conservation.

For the first time, scientists weighed employment and leadership when considering how people act regarding their natural surroundings. They found the status and political power of companies in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin strongly influence the conservation practices of their employees. (more…)

Berkeley Lab Awarded $12.5 Million to Lead a U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has been chosen to lead a consortium for a U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center on Building Energy Efficiency. The Center will develop technologies for low-energy residential and commercial buildings, as well as work on commercialization of those technologies and research how human behavior affects building energy use. MU Researcher Says Chinese Credit Market Remains Underdeveloped

*Survey reveals urban Chinese households maintain high saving rates and are unwilling to utilize credit*

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Chinese government has made several reforms to its economic policies in recent years. Despite these reforms, a new study shows that Chinese households are not utilizing their credit market to its fullest extent. Rui Yao, a researcher in the department of Personal Financial Planning in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Missouri, says a recent survey of urban Chinese households shows that the Chinese credit market remains underdeveloped.

Sandstorms and desertification

Saturday, and again on Monday (22^nd March) Beijing and part of eastern China was hit by two successive severe sandstorms originating in northern China. And the fine dust travelled not only to Taiwan, but as far as to the western United States.

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing……

Although it’s the gas price to blame, but it’s a great move – bicycles!! More people are using the two-wheelers. Good for the environment, good for health. There are about 18 million sales a year over the last few years in US. That’s a smart number.
