What is Web 2.0?

Initially we went to web (in www) to get information about things from our daily life to scientific queries, and specific sites would provide the answers or present search results.
But in the last several years there appeared or better to say, developed a newer version of world wide web where users can interact with data, can connect with others for social or business purposes, can store and use their data.
For example, photos are also data, so when we upload photos in Facebook, we are in fact storing that data and sharing it with friends and visitors. So Facebook is one of the best and successful examples of Web 2.0. Another example is Wikipedia where anyone can edit data, but of course it is monitored over vandals.
Blogs are other examples of Web 2.0
