Gender of a baby alligator is temperature dependent!

Post by Admin » Sat Nov 26, 2016 2:28 pm

Researchers found that ambient temperature of the developing eggs determines gender (male or female) in alligators and in some turtles. It's also known as temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD).

Eggs incubated at 33 ºC produces mostly males, while incubation at 30 ºC produces mostly females.

Now the question arises: what's going to happen with climate change when the Earth is supposed to be warmer than now, will there be only male alligators?
