Other way around, how can you easily recognize words that are feminine in German and will take the article ‘die’.

Words that have the following ‘endings’ are generally feminine and will take the article ‘die’ -

- heit, - keit, - schaft, - ion, - tät, - ung, - ie, - enz, - ei, - ur, - ik, - ade, - ette, - sis, - ere, - age, - elle

Exceptions that can be confusing:

By the way, not all womanly thiings are feminine. You may think, it’s ‘die Bikini’, which your gut feeling probably tells you. But negative, it’s ‘der Bikini’


‘Sie trägt keinen Bikini’ - She is not wearing any bikini.


Verb: tragen, trug, getragen (to wear something, wore, worn or to carry something, carried, carried)
