King Salman’s Moscow Visit

The landmark visit of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Moscow recognises not only Russia’s greater geopolitical or military influence in the Middle East, but also points to President Vladimir Putin’s diplomatic breakthrough at a time when US is quickly disappearing from its superpower position losing ‘trust’.

Alongside its natural resources like oil and gas, Russia is one of the most advanced countries in technology, while Saudi Arabia is known only for its ‘oil power’. In all these fields – science, technology, medicine or literature, Saudis are zeo-talented. There is not a single mentionable research institute in Saudi Arabia.

The only thing where Saudis are good – buying billions of dollars arms from US.

Now hopefully things will change.

According to Kremlin: ‘An agreement to establish a $1 billion energy investment fund with the participation of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), the Saudi Arabian Oil Company known as Saudi Aramco and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), as well as the agreement on investments of up to $100 million by the PIF and RDIV in the United Transport Concession Holding were signed.’

‘In addition, an agreement on establishing a $1 billion high-tech investment fund, which provides for investment by the PIF and the RDIF.’

King Salman’s historic visit will help begin a new era in Middle East. US influence never helped for any ‘peace’ in the region but left the Arabs only wih chaos. Although the Saudi move is a bit late, but ‘better late than never’.
